It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Rupp update, huh? Today we worked on the forks, specifically; we made fork bushings to fit the Rupp Roadster mini bike.
We used PVC pipe pieces from Home Depot which most matched the inside of the fork housing.
The dimensions are: 1.08†inside diameter in the housing and .945†diameter outside diameter forks. We found PVC ‘T’ fittings with 1.08†outside diameter, we drilled the inside out to about what the fork was with a drill press and vise grips, we had to work the piece on the spinning drill bit so that the fork would fit. Then with a Dremel and grinder we cut the ‘T’ into a straight pipe with a hole in the middle.
We pressed the pieces in place with the hole facing in to minimize stress on it as it is the weak point. After some work with the half moon file, the forks slid on. It works! A bit tight at first but did loosen up some after a test ride.
We’re still having the problem where she dies and does not start when warmed up, we are thinking it has to do with the carb since we run long enough to burn just about all the bowl can hold. So, we’re looking for a carb to replace this mystery (not factory) carb with. Hopefully we’ll find a cheap Tecumseh carburetor off eBay soon.
