Skittles win.
I got about two hours of sleep the night before, couple that with the fact that I hadn’t gotten a full night’s sleep in 5 days and you get the magical laziness known as exhaustion. I did my impression of Super_No_1 on Saturday morning while I just sat on whatever soft chair I could find by the pool deck and watched cosplayers and photographers with no motivation to join them.
Some of the highlights of the day:
Talking to Imari-chan again (in casual wear).
Shoot Soul Eater friends (Jenny and co).
See Precious/Verndead in Black Lagoon, see my gallery, her scar is awesome!
Shoot Gurren Lagann post-con gathering. They were so cold. ![]()
Dinner with (table order): Steve, Marissa, Crystal, Todd, Logan, and then taking the dorky Myspace picture with them. ^_^

I literally disconnected my router today to work on these on my day off. Finished the second day and have come to two conclusions of me and conventions:
1. I’ll never find AndyRak again.
2. I’ll never get a good shot of Camille
She is such a cutie but I can’t get a non blurry/nice shot of her! I also need to be conscience of my ISO setting. 200 ISO at night = blur fail.
Day two was fun; I finally met Imari-chan. She’s such a sweetheart. ‘looking forward to seeing her again. ^_^
Saturday, I dressed up as Pip and Macross guy. Pip is just too hard to shoot in so I changed (and napped) mid day. The Hellsing wedding went very well and the masquerade was a good but short. It was fun to see Jenny and co and then Owldepot to my surprise on stage. The Gurren Lagann gathering was fun too. This is not a recap; that comes later. Just notes for now.
Important thing to remember: The masquerade does not fill up and is not worth waiting in line for (length of show vs time waiting).

A week from the day, photos from Friday, or day 1 of ALA 2009 are up (click here)! These are probably my best shots of the con since I was tired the next day and exhausted the day after.
I tried to be more creative with my shots and not settle with simple portrait shots or gathering photos. I was able to get some interesting shots but I still have to figure out this damn flash to get what I want.
Some…
Unfortunately, they’re quite disappointing…
Click here to go to my PMX 08 gallery. In two parts, from the morning on Saturday to 8PM and then part 2; from 8PM on…Â I used Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Photoshop CS3 for post processing.
I had a great time at PMX ’08 seeing many friends and meeting some new ones. Like every year before, this one was small but unlike the last one I attended (2005); this one was not spread out but was centered in a hotel lobby instead of the vast Long Beach Convention Center.
I attended only Saturday which ended up Saturday and early Sunday morning as I left at 3:30AM, it’s funny how many Costumes randomly appear throughout the late night hours! I found Camille and then John after midnight; she had just finished her costume that day.
So, let’s talk photos. I am unhappy with them. I didn’t realize that I simply do not know how to use my flash yet and even worse, do not know how to shoot indoors!
This bothers me, that the results are so poor. Due to the nature of this small con, I befriended many of the people I shot and they are looking forward to seeing the pictures. Really, even after I told them to wait a bit while I post process a week ago, they messaged me again to remind me they’re waiting for them.
So, this is what I need to learn:
And What I need to work on:
There’s more but I need to focus on what’s above.
Now to clarify, I had a great time at PMX, although disappointed in my photos, and would like to go next year. I’ll improve my photography skills by then, I always do.
I want to thank JC of anime-photos.com for giving me his tired flash AA batteries when mine ran out.
And now I need to contact all those who messaged me since the con…
